an evening's soundtrack

because there will be days when, despite the loads of other things on your mind and all the ways your body is tired from the work of the week, you need to get your feet moving and your heart pumping.

because on days like that you need to put on a pair of headphones and listen to the kind of music that helps you to breathe and think and settle into your steps.

because tuesday was one of those days. and i put on my shoes with a knot in my stomach, doubting there was any way this run would be good, but then it was.

this song that came on as i (finally) got to the top of the giant hill, finding myself face to face with marigolds, deep orange and crisp fall yellow. ahead, giant maple trees rest into the simple breeze, backlit brilliant by the setting sun.

this one on the beautiful old brookline street with giant old houses and trees towering high, the sun peaking in and around. one foot in front of the other.

and this one because even a melancholy girl needs to turn up the volume and move every once and a while.
